Artist Bio
ARTIST STATEMENT.what is my way of being an artist?A nomadic journey.I feel it as a journey which started in Haiphong to go to the US through a long nomadic rootless life: I had to sort out my own aesthetics out the numerous cultures that I travelled while integrating as much as I could the visual, the feelings, the shocks, in short the human. I always felt that I was born artist with a special ability to see and comprehend.I have an Art degree and a doctorate.I started showing at 14.in Madagascar where I was raised.then showed in Paris, New York, Florence, Montreal, Miami, Shanghai etc...I work in the encaustic media. this is a mix of beeswax, and gum arabic with pigments.I love its complex process, the time it takes, the different steps, the layering, the uncovering of the layers, it is a kind of meditation in action which suits my spiritual quest.I am a Gnostic and like the Enigmatic.Through encaustic, I am creating unknown worlds using a very old Egyptian tradition.I like making the wax, with the pigments; the feeling of making my own colours is empowering,Also I seem to penetrate and touch a hermetic tradition while creating something different and new.The Egyptians paintings were very still and reflected some very strict rules.they were made to accompany the Pharaohs in their last journey. As such they were never seen except by the owners themselves. I find this intriguing and fascinating.I use it to express the opposite. This is my way of communicating the symbolism behind the reality. And I perceive this reality in constant motion and mutation. I think my work reflects this aspect.
