Description

Enjoy an experience off the beaten path, basking in the cool hipster vibe of Belleville, a multi-ethnic neighborhood on the Eastern side of Paris.  Home to many artists, including the late icon Edith Piaf, Belleville is located in the trendy 19th and 20th arrondissements.   Discover all this thriving neighborhood has to offer, sampling delights from true artisans of the French gastronomic tradition, from traditional breads to Provençal oils and cheeses.   In addition to free product tastings, interact with these extraordinary artisans, including a special behind-the-scenes look at how baguettes are made in a fabulous working bakery kitchen.  End your tour at a local wine shop, savoring cheese and dessert paired with wines selected by the shop’s resident oenologist (wine expert).

What You Can Expect

Your walking tour starts at 10:30am, near the Jourdain stop on metro line 11.  Our first stop is a coffee shop, where we'll enjoy local brewed coffee and typical French pastries (30 min). The guide will introduce you to the neighborhood and share the story of this first French pastry you’ll taste on the tour.

You’ll visit the "boulangerie," closed to the public, to discover how a bakery works and the process of making the traditional French baguette.  And of course, you’ll taste the baguette!  We limit the group to a maximum of 6 people, as the kitchen is small.

The next stop is France’s version of a delicatessen, where you'll be introduced to Mediterranean foods typically enjoyed as appetizers. From there, you’ll visit a Provence shop, where different tastings will be offered.

You’ll then have time to explore the neighborhood (30 min), visiting the charming "village" of Belleville and checking out the best view of the city.  Then, visit a wine and cheese shop (30-45 min), where the shop owner will introduce you to some of his wines, paired with French cheeses, sharing information about wine and cheese classification.  Finish with dessert, a typical French “gateau” or cake.

The last stop is a local produce stand, where you'll taste some of owner's specialty raw fruits and vegetables.

We’ll end our tour with a short walk through the street art area of Belleville (5 min), on our way back to the metro station.
