During the Middle Ages, Le Marais was at the city’s border. A strategic place, thus, which benefited from the French Kings’ special care. On your way, you will see Paris’ oldest outer wall, along with timber-framed houses tilted by Time. Your kids will be amazed by the Hotel de Sens’ facades, covered with conic turrets, and by the history of the (not so charming) princess who lived there.

Le Marais had its second heyday during the 17th century, when high-ranked families desired to locate their private mansions nearby. Your little darlings will spot beautiful buildings from Louis XIV’s era, like the Hotel de Beauvais or Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis church. At every step, observation skills will be required to find out intriguing details hidden in surrounding architectures.

A newer part of the district’s history will be evoked at the Shoah Memorial, in link with the vibrant Jewish Quarter Le Marais was before the 1940s. With a speech adapted to your children’s age and understanding, your historian guide will relate the Jews of France’s fate during WWII.

Last but not least, a stop is scheduled at Place des Vosges, the brick-and-stone heart of the neighborhood. Here crucial historical events took place. The young detectives will need to open their eyes even wider and gather their clues to answer the last riddles their booklet suggests.
