Description

The Palais Royal is a national domain sitting in the center of Paris.  Built by Cardinal Richelieu in 1634, the Palais Royal later became the heart of the French Revolution in the 1780s, frequented by courtisans, politicans, prostitutes and firebrands. The Revolutionary orator Camille Desmoulins made his famous speech in a café situated in the Palais Royal, encouraging the crowd to surge out of the gardens, crossing Paris to storm the Bastille.
French author Colette lived here, visited by artists, writers & actors.  Today the neighborhood is a mix of tradition and modernity, with chic boutiques, craftsmen's ateliers and cozy bistros. Let me take you on a visit to discover the pearls of this lovely area of Paris.

You will visit one of the city's most spectacular courtyards, hidden from view to passers by.  Discover the dramatic history of the Palais Royal, from its founder (the infamous Cardinal Mazarin - minister to King Louis XIII & sworn enemy of the Three Musketeers!), to the fire-branding revolutionaires who incited the crowd to storm the Bastille in 1789 - and on to today's chic boutiques & designer shops.  All of this history in one locaiton !  We will also visit a covered passage - the 1800's equivalent of the modern shopping mall.
Food & drink are not included.
Wear sturdy walking shoes & bring an umbrella if you are visiting on a cloudy day.
