Description

We will visit the hidden squares, picturesque alleys & "private villages" of the city's most scenic area. Montmartre is visited by many tourists but we will see a different side of Montmartre, the one where people live, eat, shop...
During the Belle Epoque (1870s-1914) Montmartre became famous for its cafés, dance halls & cabarets. Many struggling artists lived and worked here : Renoir, Picasso, Van Gogh, Dégas, Toulouse-Lautrec...to name a few. We will see where they lived & worked.

We will stroll through charming secret villages with romantic names : "Le Hameau des Artistes" (the artist's hamlet) ; "Le Passage des Sorcières" (The Witches Passage), "L'Allée des Brouillards" (The Foggy Alley).
We will visit cabarets where these struggling artists would meet : "Le Lapin Agile" (the Agile Rabbit), "Le Bateau Lavoir" (the Washboat), "Le Moulin de la Galette" (the Bread Windmill)...
We'll also discover the area's medieval vestiges - abbeys, gothic churches...
Most importantly we will discover the hidden corners of Montmartre, avoiding the touristy areas in order to focus on its secrets - the Montmartre of postcards & movies.
This area of the city has an additional secret which I will share - it is home to some of the city's most prolific street artists.  London has Banksy but Paris has its own artists who have covered the walls of the neighbourhood with their street art.
